Our team of dentists and allied staff are here to provide you with professional and expert dental care. We aim to make your visit to the dentist as comfortable as possible, showing care and consideration to your individual needs, and to promote your optimal dental health.
We will need you to answer some confidential medical and lifestyle questions that will assist us to personalise your treatment requirements and preventative strategies.
You can download our new patient form here, to fill in and and hand in to us.
Your oral health is an important part of your general health. We are what we eat and we need good teeth for good nutrition to give us fuel for our everyday needs. Likewise, our eating habits and lifestyle can impact on the health of our teeth.
There are also many complex inter-relationships between our oral health and body systems that are becoming better understood with time and research. Modern dentistry is dependent on diagnosis and prevention to maintain your smile, appearance and ability to chew comfortably.
We will first relieve pain and discomfort, then accurately diagnose your oral health needs. This involves data collection of various forms. Visual dental examination, palpation and tension testing of teeth, charting of your dentitions history, impressions of your teeth to make stone models of them, radiographic examination, photographs, intra and extra-oral, saliva testing, bacteriological testing, periodontal health and charting, assessment of occlusion and health of your jaw joints, oral medicine and pathology screening, orthodontic assessment as well as cosmetic evaluations are routinely done when indicated both when necessary or asked about.
Ongoing maintenance of your dental health is also crucial to its long-term success. Ongoing preventive appointments are encouraged with regular examinations.
Reminders for these appointments can be organised by mail, email, SMS, phone or booking well in advance. Please discuss this with our reception staff as to what best suits you.

Why Alstonville Dental?
Alstonville Dental is an Accredited Dental Practice. This means you can rest assured that your best interests are foremost in every part of your dental experience. Accreditation is awarded by an independent accrediting agency. It is the ultimate checklist for compliance with National Safety and Quality in Health Service (NSQHS) Standards. Dental Practice Accreditation has not yet been made mandatory but at Alstonville Dental we are committed to providing the best possible care.
If you haven’t visited us before or not for a long time you will be pleasantly surprised. Our recently renovated practice provides additional comfort and efficiency. The enlarged reception area has a great view of town, as well as including a consulting area for more detailed discussion and options of viewing educational videos. There is a nice play area for little ones. The garden setting creates a relaxing environment to work in and visit. Parking is easy in the area and the option of parking in our backyard is a great help to our elderly patients. Our ramp is easy for wheelchairs to negotiate and rooms generally larger in size to navigate around.
A specialised sterilisation room caters for instrument cleaning, sterilisation and storage and infection control. Intra and extra oral digital x-rays are used routinely for quick diagnosis and treatment planning. Monitors are present in all treatment rooms to discuss and view as treatment is performed. All records are networked to our reception area via our computers and efficient software. Nitrous oxide sedation (happy gas) is now available in all 3 surgery rooms. Extra staff mean we can spend more time with each patient including dietary counselling, digital photographic records, discussing treatment plans and oral hygiene strategies. Our reception area stocks supplies of many oral hygiene aids, rinses and toothpastes that help our patients quickly get the necessary quality products they need at a reasonable cost.
History of Alstonville Dental
Alstonville Dental was started by a Dr Ogg who had moved from West Australia in the mid 1960s. Dr Brian Chappell took over for around 7 years until Dr Brian Redmayne then purchased it in the mid 1970s, as the little village began its steady transformation into the township it is today.
Dr Richard Redmayne took over from his cousin Brian who decided to have a stint at science teaching in 1984. He has had a number of assistant dentists over this time whom have helped treat the growing population – Dr Tony Perez, Dr Sean Harvie, Dr John Parkinson, Dr Mark O’Connor, Dr Ed Khoury, Dr Alex Mirkovic, Dr Deidre McKay, Dr Peter Stransky and Dr Subin Dutta.
Alstonville Dental encourages payment at the time of treatment. To facilitate this we have facilities for direct payment by health funds through a HICAPS terminal. This allows virtually all members of health funds to claim their health fund benefit for the treatment just completed by use of their health fund card. An EFTPOS terminal is also available for credit card payments, as well as cheque and cash payments. Arrangement with reception staff for EFT in special cases can be made.
Alstonville Dental also takes pleasure in treating our Veterans Affairs patients under the relevant government schedule: Gold Card Holders are fully covered for dental treatment (within annual limits set by Dept Vet Affairs).
We love to teach our young patients the importance of preventive care of their teeth . The federal government’s Teen Dental Scheme is a great way of achieving this necessary task. Don’t waste your entitlement to this initiative.
Our Practice wants to encourage regular attendance to diagnose potential problems early. We provide a no-gap preventative and diagnostic service for HCF members, i.e. exam, scale and polish, mouthguards, fluoride treatments, radiographs.
Our practice also offers treatment as a BUPA preferred provider, providing benefits under the MEMBERS FIRST dental network.
